May 5, 2026—Today is the final day of China’s May Day Labor Festival. Since the customer has requested that the baby walker shipment be dispatched tomorrow morning, we have returned to the factory to prepare the goods.
Morning sunlight streamed into the room through the cracks in the curtains. I rubbed my eyes and glanced at the date on my phone—May 5, 2026. Today was the final day of the May Day holiday, a time that should have marked the easy close of a relaxing break. Yet the alarm rang promptly at six, reminding me that today’s task was anything but leisurely. An urgent notice from the client demanded that a shipment of baby walkers be dispatched first thing tomorrow morning—time was tight, and there was no room for delay. I quickly got up, freshened up, grabbed a quick breakfast, and headed out to the factory.
On the road, the city streets had yet to fully shake off the languor of the holiday, but I knew that the factories were already bustling with activity. During the May Day holiday, most employees were off, with only a handful on duty. Today, however, to meet this batch of orders, we’d have to bring in more workers—and we might even need to call in some temporary overtime. The thought of it made me instinctively step on the gas.
By the time we arrived at the factory, it was already broad daylight. The workshop was brightly lit, and several on-duty colleagues were busy tidying up the equipment. Upon seeing me enter, they all nodded and greeted me. “Thanks for your hard work—returning to work even before the holiday is over,” I said with a smile. An experienced employee patted me on the shoulder and replied, “No problem. The customer’s requirements are our orders; we must live up to their trust.” After a brief exchange of pleasantries, we immediately got down to work.
This batch of baby walkers is being prepared by the customer for the upcoming peak sales season, with a substantial order totaling 2,000 units. Since the production line was shut down during the holiday period, all products must be retrieved from the warehouse for final inspection, packaging, and loading. I opened the order list and carefully checked each model and quantity to ensure there were no omissions or errors. Although baby walkers may appear simple, their assembly involves numerous components and rigorous safety inspections; even the slightest oversight could compromise product quality or create safety hazards. Therefore, every step of the process must be meticulously controlled.
Inside the warehouse, workers are busily removing toddler walkers from the shelves and neatly arranging them in the inspection area. Several quality inspectors, clad in white gloves, meticulously examine each walker’s wheels, frame, and handrails, ensuring there are no burrs or loose parts. Any defects are immediately flagged and promptly repaired on-site by maintenance staff. Watching their focused dedication fills me with deep respect. Although Labor Day is traditionally a day off, these workers remain steadfast at their posts to ensure timely delivery—a level of professional commitment that is truly inspiring.
Around noon, everyone took turns heading to the cafeteria for lunch. The cafeteria had specially prepared a hearty meal as an extra treat for colleagues working overtime. At the dining table, someone joked, “This holiday has been even more exhausting than work!” Yet beneath the laughter lay a sense of pride, for everyone knew that their efforts were aimed at ensuring customer satisfaction and upholding the company’s reputation. After lunch, without much rest, everyone returned to their desks to resume work.
At 3:00 p.m., the packaging process began. Workers carefully placed each inspection-passed walker into a dust-proof bag, then packed it into a custom-made cardboard box and sealed the box with tape. Each box was labeled with the model number and quantity. Next, a forklift transported the boxes to the loading area and stacked them neatly on the truck. I stood by to oversee the operation, making sure every box was securely positioned to prevent damage during transit. As the sun set, most of the shipment had already been loaded, with only a few dozen boxes remaining.
At six o’clock in the evening, the final box of baby walkers was loaded onto the truck. I let out a long sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from my brow. Though exhausted, seeing the fully loaded vehicle ready to depart filled me with a profound sense of accomplishment. Our customer will receive this shipment first thing tomorrow, ensuring their sales plans remain on track—and in doing so, we have truly embodied the spirit that “labor is the most glorious.”
As I left the factory, night had already fallen. The city’s neon lights began to glow one by one, and the streets grew busier with pedestrians—many still savoring the final days of their holiday. As for me, though I missed the chance to reunite with my family, I feel no regret. For on this special Labor Day, my colleagues and I poured our sweat and effort into completing an important task. Such dedication is not only a testament to our respect for our profession but also a clear demonstration of our sense of responsibility.
On my way home, I rolled down the car window, and the evening breeze brushed my face, carrying a faint chill. Tomorrow, this batch of baby walkers will be delivered to our customers, bringing convenience and joy to countless families. And today, the final day of the May Day Labor Festival, will also take on extraordinary meaning thanks to our hard work. Labor creates value, and striving shapes the future—perhaps this is the truest essence of Labor Day.
